Southern California to get brief cooldown before triple-digit heat returns next week

After days of sweltering temperatures, Southern California is expected to get a brief break from the heat this weekend before another warmup sends inland communities back into the triple digits next week.

Temperatures in downtown Los Angeles reached 91 degrees Thursday, about 9 degrees above the seasonal average of 82 degrees and just shy of a daily record, KTLA meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said Friday morning.
