Two men were convicted of participating in a cargo theft scheme that used legitimate trucking companies they had purchased or fraudulently appropriated to obtain and steal freight.

Facing federal prison sentences are two Indian nationals, Arshpreet Singh, 28, of Sacramento, Calif., and Vikramjeet Singh, 31, of Fontana, Calif. A federal jury in the Central District of California on Sept. 29 found both men guilty of conspiracy to commit theft from interstate or foreign shipments. The jury after the seven-day trial also found Arshpreet Singh guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 20 before U.S. District Judge Anne Hwang. Arshpreet Singh faces up to 20 years in federal prison, while Vikramjeet Singh, who required an interpreter during court proceedings, faces a maximum sentence of five years…
