Missing man, 55, found dead in heavily wooded California forest; Cause of death investigated

In a somber turn of events, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reports the discovery of the lifeless body of Christian Alan Petrie, a 55-year-old resident of Crestline. Petrie had been reported missing by his family, leading to a search operation that unfortunately ended in a heart-wrenching outcome.

Deputies from the Twin Peaks Station responded to a residence in Crestline on Saturday, January 20, 2024, following the report of a missing person. Christian Alan Petrie had last been seen on Sunday, January 14, 2024, in the Crestline area, and concerns grew as his family had not heard from him.

The search intensified, and on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, a specialized search and rescue crew from the Sheriff’s Department was deployed to the forest area of Mormon Road and State Highway 138 in Crestline. At approximately 1:27 p.m., Petrie’s lifeless body was located in the dense wilderness. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unknown.

Petrie was carefully hoisted out of the forest and transported to the Coroner’s Office, where a comprehensive autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The results of the autopsy will shed light on the circumstances leading to this tragic end.
