SANTA ANA, CA (LAI) – Kevin Michael Konther, aged 58, received a 140-year-to-life prison sentence today for a series of rapes and sexual assaults committed in the 1990s. The sentence was handed down after a conviction for assaulting a 9-year-old girl and a female jogger, as well as the sexual assault of a 12-year-old. The incidents occurred in South Orange County.
Konther faced multiple felony counts, including rape, forcible oral copulation, and lewd acts on a minor. The jury also upheld sentencing enhancements for multiple victims and kidnapping.
The court recently rejected Konther’s request for a new trial, which was based on claims of prosecutorial misconduct and concerns about a former crime lab employee’s integrity.
The first assault, dating back to October 21, 1995, involved a 9-year-old girl who was attacked in Serrano Creek Park in Lake Forest. The second incident occurred on June 2, 1998, when a 31-year-old woman jogging in Mission Viejo was assaulted.
