The search for a missing hiker continues in the snow-covered Mt. Baldy area of the San Gabriel Mountains.
Just after 11 p.m. on Sunday, Fontana sheriff’s station deputies received a call regarding missing hiker Lisei Huang, 22, of El Monte, in the Mt. Baldy area. Huang set out alone at about 2 p.m., and had not been heard from since about 4 p.m. the same day, authorities said.
At about 2:30 a.m. Monday, members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s West Valley Search and Rescue Crew arrived and began a search but did not find Huang.
On Tuesday, search and rescue crews continued the search in heavily snowfallen area, however, avalanche risks hindered the search efforts, and the crews were pulled off the mountain, sheriff’s officials said. Search and rescue teams will remain at the trailhead and will continue their search when conditions are safe, sheriff’s officials added.
The sheriff’s department strongly urges everyone to stay away and refrain from mountain activities during this inclement weather. The weather has buried the San Bernardino and San Gabriel mountains in snow, and it is highly likely hikers will get into trouble, authorities stated.
