Driver dies in multi-car crash on I-215 in Riverside

RIVERSIDE (CNS) – A motorist was killed and at least one person was injured Monday in a five-vehicle collision on Interstate 215 in Riverside.

The crash was reported at 2:20 a.m. on southbound I-215, just south of MLK Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said five sedans impacted in the middle of the freeway. Riverside Fire Department crews reached the location minutes later and pronounced one victim, whose identity was not immediately released, dead at the scene, the CHP said.

Another motorist was reportedly treated for unspecified injuries.

Debris was scattered throughout lanes, prompting a closure of all but the HOV lane on the southbound side, according to the CHP.

A SigAlert was issued at 2:40 a.m. due to the shutdown and ensuing traffic jam.
