A Mountain Lion Is Out on the Prowl in One Southern California Neighborhood

Left to their own devices, mountain lions would prefer not to live as city cats. These powerful stealth hunters are happiest living in the forests and mountains that comprise their natural habitats. Unfortunately, however, humans have a nasty habit of overdeveloping and encroaching on wildlife habitats.  With a diminishing natural habitat and food sources, some mountain lions have no choice but to head into the ‘burbs.

That’s what got residents of Lake Elsinore, a town in Riverside County, California, so worried right now. Recently, Lake Elsinore has gained a new resident in the form of a mountain lion who prowls so close to people’s homes at night, he’s getting picked up on their cameras!

According to KTLA News , Lake Elsinore backs up against heavily-forested foothills , and according to Valerie Chapman, who captured the surveillance videos, it’s not unusual for her to spot rabbits and sometimes even coyotes around her home. However, the mountain lion sighting was a major first.
