Crews in Nevada as Brightline West high-speed train work proceeds along I-15

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Work along the high-speed train route is proceeding this week, with crews assigned to seven sites in Southern Nevada along Interstate 15.

The activity this week in Nevada is the first in a while as crews have been working in California, mostly in the Mojave Desert between Hesperia and Mountain Pass.

Brightline West is in the early stages of building the first high-speed train in the U.S., reaching speeds up to 200 mph. The project is expected to cost $12 billion. It will run from Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga, California. From there, it will connect to existing rail lines into the metro Los Angeles area. The train is expected to begin carrying passengers in 2028, in time for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Brightline West announced a schedule Wednesday morning for survey work and geotechnical borings, where soil is analyzed along the train’s route between Las Vegas and Southern California. Most of the work is happening in the median between northbound and southbound lanes of I-15. All of the work scheduled through Monday will be during daytime hours:
