2024-2025 Southern California Winter Forecast: Signs of La Nina Modoki For Interesting Forecast

Southern California Weather Force has issued the final forecast for the months spanning from November 2024 to May 2025 for the precipitation and temperature factors associated with the coming La Nina.

La Nina is indeed building as noted in the sea surface temperature map within this article. Given what we are seeing now, this La Nina will be of the Modoki kind. La Nina Modoki is when the final La Nina that develops will be Central Pacific Ocean based rather than the Eastern Basin near South America. Modoki years have spanned recently from 2010-2011 and 2016-2017. Forecasters were thrown a curveball on both years.

As stated before, I would be looking into this factor and have come up with the fact the season will ramp up as this phenomenon develops further. Just because we have a dry October through the region does not mean it will always turn out that way. Our major rainy months are December, January, and February at all times here in this section of the United States.

So, I will go from average rainfall to above average, similar to the previous mentioned La Nina Modoki seasons as a result. Had La Nina developed east of where it is now developing, this number would be down to below average, and well below average at that. A Modoki season always will throw someone a curveball. Given the complex nature of these seasons, we will also have average to below average overall temperatures once it kicks in.
