San Bernardino law enforcement officers put new Proposition 36 to the test early this month when a routine traffic stop gave way to the discovery of a repeat offender in possession of illegal substances. On the evening of January 3, Deputy Larson pulled over Kevin Jefferson, a 42-year-old San Bernardino resident, after observing multiple vehicle code violations. Jefferson, who was on probation and already had multiple drug-related convictions, was found with suspected methamphetamine, triggering a probation hold and a no-bail booking under the freshly enacted law designed to tackle homelessness, drug addiction, and theft, as reported by the SBSD Central.
