Authorities in Riverside County have arrested 23 individuals in a significant retail theft crackdown, a collaborative effort steered by the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Robbery and Burglary Suppression Team. The operation, conducted in partnership with local business owners, large retailers, and loss prevention employees, ran from March 5 through March 7. KTLA reports that the arrests led to the retrieval of over $4,000 worth of stolen merchandise.
Among those apprehended were individuals facing a variety of charges, including burglary, shoplifting, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Specifically, six suspects were deemed eligible for Prop 36 felony charges concerning prior theft and drug-related offenses. “During this operation, over $4,000 of merchandise was stolen and recovered. All property was returned to the victims,” according to a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The detainees range in age from 20 to 65 years old and are now facing multiple charges.
