On Tuesday, Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton was served with a Notice of Intent to Recall from office. The recall notice, delivered on March 17, 2025, while Becton entered the back entrance of her office, follows growing frustration over the handling of crime in the county.
The recall petition, with 103 out of 121 validated signatures, states concerns from victims, residents, and business owners about unaddressed criminal activity and Becton’s failure to ensure justice. Organizers, citing rising crime and a lack of transparency, are committed to restoring safety in Contra Costa.
Becton now has seven days to respond. This marks the latest recall attempt against a California DA, following Alameda’s Pamela Price and San Francisco’s Chesa Boudin.
