Murder Charges Filed Against Ryan Dwayne Turner in Death of San Bernardino Deputy

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Murder charges have been filed against Ryan Dwayne Turner Jr., 22, of San Bernardino, following a high-speed chase that resulted in the death of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Hector Cuevas Jr. on March 17, 2025.

Turner was pursued by sheriff’s deputies after allegedly driving a stolen 2016 Hyundai Sonata. The pursuit resulted in a crash that killed Deputy Cuevas, a 6-year veteran of the department.

The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office announced on March 19, 2025, that Turner faces the following charges:

  • Murder (PC 187): Turner is accused of causing the death of Deputy Cuevas with malice aforethought during the pursuit.
  • Evading an Officer (VC 2800.2): Turner allegedly fled from deputies while driving recklessly, disregarding the safety of others.
  • Driving or Taking a Vehicle Without Consent (VC 10851): Turner is also accused of stealing the vehicle involved in the crash.

Turner has a prior criminal history related to vehicle theft, including two convictions in 2024, according the complaint.
