Man convicted of murder in Southern California DUI crash that killed good Samaritan

A man is facing life in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder in connection with a DUI crash that killed a woman as she was helping at the scene of an earlier collision in Oxnard.

The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said that Francisco Garcia was driving eastbound on Pleasant Valley Road on July 22, 2018 when he struck two disabled vehicles that were involved in an earlier collision. Oxnard resident Elicia Lopez-Hernandez, 52, was killed in the crash.

“Several individuals had exited their vehicles to render aid when Garcia’s vehicle plowed through the scene, killing Ms. Lopez-Hernandez and seriously injuring another,” the DA’s Office stated in a news release. “Both victims were good Samaritans assisting with the earlier accident.”…
