Animal Commission Meeting Sparks Outrage Over $2.5M Consultant Contract

Community frustration boiled over at the Riverside County Animal Commission meeting today, where more than 20 speakers voiced concerns over transparency, animal welfare, and the use of taxpayer dollars. At the center of the conversation: a controversial $2.5 million consulting contract with Kristen Hassan.Attorney Dan Bolton, a vocal critic of the deal, joined the conversation again tonight to express concern over what he calls a “boondoggle” contract that has yet to deliver results.“As of May, we’ve paid her half a million dollars — and the shelters are still killing hundreds of animals every month,” Bolton said.He cited 550 animals euthanized last month, authorized by Animal Services Director Mary Martin, as evidence that the county is focusing more on numbers and optics than actual progress.“They’re still focused on metrics instead of solutions.
