Get ready for a big day of celebration on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the corner of 2nd Street and Mt. Vernon Avenue in San Bernardino! The historic Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge is reopening after a long rebuild, and we’re inviting everyone to join the ribbon‑cutting ceremony and community fair to mark this milestone.
The event will kick off at 9:30 a.m. and will include special guests like U.S. Congressman Pete Aguilar and California State Senator Eloise Gomez Reyes. San Bernardino Mayor Helen Tran will serve as the emcee and help lead our celebration of community, connection, and progress.
The Mt. Vernon Avenue Bridge has been a symbol of connection since it was first built in 1934. It spanned over one of the region’s largest rail yards, linking the west side of San Bernardino and serving tens of thousands of residents, students, and businesses every day. After it was closed in late 2020 and removed in 2021, the new structure took shape starting in 2023.
