Two individuals from San Bernardino found themselves in Sacramento County’s grips after a traffic stop escalated to a narcotic bust. On a routine traffic violation stop, REACT officers with their K9, Maverick, sniffed out a significant quantity of drugs. REACT, a joint task force focused on regional crime enforcement, uncovered 5 pounds of methamphetamine and one kilogram of fentanyl inside the vehicle, a cache of narcotics sufficient for more than 22,000 meth doses and half a million lethal doses of fentanyl, respectively.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office detailed the arrest of 34-year-old Marco Duarte-Gonzalez, and 28-year-old Alexander Rodriguez Hernandez on its Facebook page, noting that the two now face multiple felony charges related to drug trafficking. This bust is a telling sign of the ongoing fight against the spread of dangerous drugs, that too often find their way onto the streets, feeding the cycle of addiction and crime.
REACT combines efforts from various agencies including the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, CHP – Valley Division, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, and the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, meshing resources and expertise to tackle such intricate crimes.
