Inmate dies after medical emergency in Riverside County jail

A 61-year-old man died at a hospital after experiencing a medical emergency while being held at a Riverside County jail, according to a sheriff’s department press release.

Michael Dupas of Perris was pronounced dead on Friday, Nov. 14, after paramedics and hospital staff attempted to provide emergency medical treatment. Deputies found Dupas the day before in the transportation area of the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, suffering from a medical emergency not detailed in the department’s press release.

Deputies attempted to treat him as did paramedics, who ultimately transported him to a hospital. But he died the next day. Jail records show Dupas had been in county jail since Aug. 8. The department said Sunday it was still investigating the death…
