Target is moving ahead with a large new store on North Perris Boulevard. The project replaces the former Regency Perris theater, which closed in 2024. Demolition wrapped up early in 2025, and the site quickly moved into active construction. This is one of the largest retail additions planned for the area.
Satellite imagery shows a clear timeline. The theater was still standing in late 2024. By March 2025 the entire site was cleared and graded. A groundbreaking ceremony followed in April as the city marked the start of the project. By September 2025 the new Target building shell was already up. Parking work and utility trenching were also visible. The store is not open yet and continues to move toward a 2026 debut.
Location
The store sits at 1688 North Perris Boulevard inside Plaza de Perris. The site lies near busy routes and growing neighborhoods. The shopping center is adding new tenants as redevelopment moves forward. Target replaces a large underused parcel and brings new activity to the north end of the center. The cleared layout and new traffic flow will support the larger store footprint.
Company
Target lists the Perris store on its official upcoming locations page. The building will be about 150,000 square feet. This format places it among the company’s larger stores. Financing for Plaza de Perris was secured in 2024 to support the project and surrounding improvements. Local updates continue to point to a 2026 opening, with construction active on the site through late 2025.
Site transformation over the decades

Development began in the late 1990s, with the Regency theater opening on August 21, 1996, under CinemaStar Theatres. It was later acquired by Regency Theatres in 2008 and operated until its final screenings in May 2024. The theater featured 10 screens and around 2,200 seats…
