In the San Bernardino County’s city of Colton, three tiny and neglected dogs had been in the battle of their lives this week, trying their best to evade a pack of unrelenting, hungry coyotes. The three had been abandoned in a remote area where the plaintive cries of hungry wild animals rang out amidst the solitude of the night. The abandoned little ones were hungry, and they were scared!
Cathi Perez had been enjoying Thanksgiving Day when she received a call from independent rescuer, Faith Easdale, who was already out trying to rescue the little dogs. Moments later Cathie headed out to help.
When Cathi arrived and met Faith, two amazing volunteers, Star and Rocco, had already captured two of the dogs, but the last one refused to cooperate. She wouldn’t go in the trap, and no one could get close to her.
Faith and Cathi set up gates and nets, but the frightened little pup would run away the moment anyone approached.
Meanwhile, the rescuers chased coyote after coyote away; the area had been swarming with them. By 3:00 a.m., the little dog was spotted running away as two coyotes chased after her. Everyone’s heart broke as they heard blood curdling screams. Sadly, the dog had disappeared into the darkness.
That empty feeling of having to leave one lost dog missing in the desert prompted them to stay, and still not wanting to give up, the rescuers searched the area for six more hours. They walked, drove around, peeked into backyards and bent down to check underneath parked cars. The dog was gone.
When all hope seemed to have been lost, everyone gathered together and sadly said their goodbyes. Suddenly out of the bushes Starr saw her. Immediately, everyone scrambled back into rescue mode and went running to spot her again – and there she was. She had fled into a yard, and this time the rescuers were more than ready.
