Powerful storm expected to impact Southern California during Christmas week

A powerful winter storm fueled by an atmospheric river is expected to bring days of rain, strong winds and hazardous travel conditions to Southern California during Christmas week, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters say there is a high likelihood, about a 90 percent chance, that the region will see moderate to heavy rainfall beginning Tuesday and lasting through at least Saturday night. The storm is expected to be at its strongest from Tuesday through Thursday, including Christmas Day, with the most intense rainfall likely late Tuesday night into Wednesday, the National Weather Service reported.
