Health officials urge beachgoers to avoid ocean water at all L.A. County beaches after rainfall

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health advises all beachgoers to avoid contact with water due to potentially elevated bacteria levels following recent rainfall.

Officials say ocean and bay recreational waters, especially near storm drain discharges, creeks and rivers, can be contaminated with bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas after rainfall.

Individuals who enter the water in those areas could become ill. Rain advisories will remain in effect until at least 8 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, and may be extended depending on further rainfall…
