Redlands City Council approved two ordinances adopting updated state fire safety standards that took effect Jan. 1, aligning local regulations with newly adopted California building and wildfire codes.
Following public hearings, the council voted to adopt Ordinance No. 2997, which amends Chapter 15.20 of the Redlands Municipal Code and adopts the 2025 California Fire Code. The state code incorporates the 2024 International Fire Code and includes amendments specific to California and the city of Redlands.
City officials said the updated fire code continues long-standing local requirements designed to address Redlands’ climatic, topographical and geological conditions. A significant change in the new code includes additional fire safety evaluations and protection measures for buildings that incorporate internal parking for electric or alternative-fuel vehicles, as well as battery-based energy storage systems…
