Southern California airport at risk of next mid-air crash, NTSB says

(FOX40.COM) — An airport in Southern California that sees hundreds of flights annually could be the site of the next mid-air collision, a high-ranking transportation official warned this week.

At a hearing Tuesday discussing the mid-air crash between an airline and an Army helicopter near Washington, D.C., last year that killed 67 people, National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy said the Hollywood Burbank Airport has been flagged as concerning by airlines.

“I keep hearing about other areas in the airspace where they are concerned,” Homendy said. “Burbank is one where commercial airlines have called me to say the next mid-air is going to be at Burbank, and nobody at [the Federal Aviation Administration] is paying attention to us.”…
