Five boys at the California School for the Deaf, Riverside, sexually assaulted a developmentally disabled girl with psychiatric conditions at least 21 times between 2022 and 2023, attorneys told jurors this week in a trial against the school, the Press-Enterprise reported.
“Every day was torture for her,” attorney Deborah Chang told the jury. The lawsuit alleges that the school and the California Department of Education neglected to protect and monitor the student, who is now 20 and living in a care facility due to major depression and suicidal thoughts.
Chang, who filed the negligence lawsuit in November 2023, described one occasion where the student’s alleged assailants told her they wanted to rape her because it was “national rape day.” Chang said the boys repeatedly assaulted her on the school campus, subjected her to physical attacks and bullying and spread videos of the girl being attacked on social media…
