Suspect arrested on hate crime charges

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a hate crime and assault reported earlier this year in Redlands, police said.

The arrest was made March 12 following a Feb. 1 incident in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven convenience store located at 1161 W. Lugonia Avenue in west Redlands, according to authorities. Police said officers responded to the report and began an investigation after the victim told them he had been targeted by a driver who used racial slurs and attempted to strike him with a vehicle.

Investigators said the victim was standing near a parked electric bicycle when a driver in a black Volkswagen SUV approached and began yelling racial epithets.
