(NewsNation) — Episode 4 of “American Inferno” shifts the focus from homes to the places communities depend on — lumber yards, commercial strips, houses of worship and city blocks where a single fire can ripple outward for blocks and years.

Hosting the episode is Lt. Bryan Mathiau of the Manchester, Connecticut, Fire Department, who says the calculus changes entirely when commercial and industrial buildings burn.

“These fires move fast, burn hot, and leave ripples that last long after the flames are gone,” Mathiau said.
