Fincastle Volunteer FD rescues three in two separate accidents

FINCASTLE, Va. (WDBJ) – The Fincastle Volunteer Fire Department says three people had to be rescued in separate car accidents in Fincastle on Wednesday afternoon.

The first call, crews say they responded to the 900 block of Botetourt Rd. and witnessed a pickup truck 50 feet down a steep embankment that had went off the road.

The team says it used a rope rescue system to safely remove the driver from the embankment; a heavy-duty rotator was required to recover the vehicle due to the challenging terrain and limited access.

The second call had crews responding to the 900 block of Springwood Rd. for another single-vehicle accident with first responders saying two people confirmed trapped in a vehicle that went over an embankment.

As units arrived, firefighters say they found a vehicle resting on its side; needing to remove the auto’s roof to remove two people…
