ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Summer-like heat will persist through the remainder of the weekend, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. A few storms could become strong.
Partly cloudy skies are expected overnight, with temperatures falling into the 60s by Sunday morning.
A front will drop in from the north on Sunday, sparking isolated-to-widely scattered showers and storms during the afternoon and evening. Rain coverage is not expected to be widespread, so not everyone will see wet weather. A few storms could become strong to severe east of the Blue Ridge, capable of producing locally strong gusty winds.
The summer warmth will remain in play until the front clears to the south on Monday. For Sunday, highs will range from the 80s to the lower 90s. Expect temperatures to top out in the 80s on Monday.
Temperatures cool down briefly behind the front as high pressure tries to wedge into the region on Tuesday. Highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s under mostly cloudy skies. Spotty rain showers are possible.
An unsettled pattern is anticipated for the coming week. From Wednesday through Saturday, expect daily chances of showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening. Not everyone will see rain each day, as rain activity is expected to be hit-or-miss.
Humidity levels will gradually increase throughout the week, with temperatures returning to the 80s and lower 90s by Thursday and Friday…
