Pinpoint Weather: Severe storms possible today

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A cold front will arrive on Sunday bringing scattered showers and storms. Some storms may become strong to severe. A Slight Risk (2/5) for severe weather is outlined over the region where damaging wind gusts will be the main hazard, although isolated large hail is also possible.

In additions, heavy rainfall from storms may lead to localized flooding concerns.

The front will arrive in the afternoon and push east through the evening hours before clearing out by the night.

In the morning, temperatures will begin mild in the 60s. Before the rain arrives, afternoon highs will be hot in the 80s to low 90s. With humidity increasing again, heat index values will be a few degrees higher.

Behind the front, drier air returns to begin the new work week with temperatures not as hot. Highs will fall back to near average in the 70s and low 80s. While a few showers cannot be ruled out Tuesday to the south, it will be mostly dry.

Temperatures begin to warm once more with highs back in the 90s by Thursday before a disturbance brings back the chance for showers and storms to end the week.
