ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A cold front will spark showers and storms across the region Monday where a few storms may be strong to severe. A Slight Risk (2/5) for severe weather is outlined over the entire area. Damaging winds will be the main threat, although isolated large hail cannot be ruled out.
Storms ahead of the front will spread more cloud cover overhead tonight with low temperatures in the 60s. Temperatures will warm up by the early afternoon into the 80s for most with some in the low 90s before the rain arrives. Humidity will also increase for the day with breezy southwesterly winds.
Some rain will be possible in the morning over the mountains from a weakening storm complex ahead of the cold front. Showers and storms are then likely in the afternoon and evening hours tracking from west to east. Storm activity tapers off into the night with a few lingering showers possible on Tuesday.
Behind the front, temperatures cool off a few degrees with sunny skies returning Wednesday. Afternoon showers and storms are possible again beginning Thursday through the end of the week with highs in the 80s to 90s.
