Blacksburg announces implementation of automated speed safety cameras near Gilbert Linkous Elementary, Blacksburg Middle

BLACKSBURG, Va. – On Monday, the Town of Blacksburg announced the future implementation of automated speed safety cameras near Gilbert Linkous Elementary and Blacksburg Middle School—the ordinance authorizing the program was adopted in 2024.

The School Zone Speed Safety Program uses four automated speed safety cameras on Toms Creek Road near Gilbert Linkous Elementary and Prices Fork Road near Blacksburg Middle School. Signs that indicate the presence of the camera areas are present in both areas.

Aug. 10 sees a 30-day warning period for both school zones. Vehicles found traveling 11 mph or more above the speed limit will receive a warning notice. This warning period will be active for a month. Beginning Sept. 9, vehicles found going 11 mph or more over the speed limit will be subject to a $100 civil citation…
