Lightning strike damages gas line, sparks propane leak call at Boonsboro home

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — Firefighters responded to a propane leak Friday after lightning damaged a gas line at a Boonsboro residence.

Crews were called to Thomas Randolph Drive just after 6 p.m. following the storm. According to Boonsboro Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, everyone inside was outside and unharmed when firefighters arrived.

Fire officials said crews found extremely high propane levels inside the structure. The department said the primary leak was caused by lightning damage to a CSST gas line, while a second leak was found near the underground propane tank.

Technicians from Foster Fuel isolated the tank from the structure. Final repairs are expected next week, and there was no threat to the homeowners or nearby neighbors, according to the department.
