Berglund Center at ‘critical point’ with $30 million in repairs needed, as casino talks continue

ROANOKE, Va. – Roanoke city leaders say the Berglund Center has reached a ‘critical point,’ with more than $30 million in deferred maintenance and capital repairs needed at the nearly 60-year-old facility.

At least $10 million of that work needs to be completed within the next two to five years to address safety and reliability concerns, according to Robyn Schon, the Berglund Center’s general manager. The most urgent projects include replacing the fire alarm system, roof, and boilers, which are original to the building.
