It was nearly one year ago when Virginia Tech decided to fire former head coach Brent Pry. It came after a 0-3 start to the 2025 season and following a 46-25 beatdown at home at the hands of Old Dominion.
The search committee formed by the school to find his replacement landed former Penn State coach James Franklin a month after he was fired in State College. A couple of weeks after he was hired, he made the incredible decision to bring Pry back to Virginia Tech, three months after he was fired, as his defensive coordinator. It was a move that not many, if anyone, would agree to after being fired.
Pry accepted the position and reunited with Franklin in the same position that he held at Penn State under Franklin.
