ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – As researchers continue to develop new ways to use artificial intelligence (AI), hoping to improve everyday life, experts said scammers are getting just as creative with the technology, in an effort to get their hands on your money.
“One of the biggest ones we see are celebrity fakes, where they are mimicking celebrities, and they have them endorsing products that they have no relationship to at all,” Julie Wheeler, the President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) serving western Virginia, said. “What we’re seeing more and more of, though, are where they actually are a family member or a loved one, or something like that, where they’ve found videos and are faking those to take advantage of people.”
