Wasena Bridge repair is expected to begin in April at twice the estimated cost

Wasena Bridge repairs appear to finally be on schedule

According to The Roanoke Rambler the project to repair the Wasena Bridge in Southwest Roanoke is moving forward but a a greater expense. Initially, City officials budgeted $25 million but the cost has now doubled to $50 million.

City Manager Bob Cowell explained that Norfolk Southern and the price of steel played a role in the final pricing. The project is expected to be finished in the spring of 2026. There have bee several delays but it seems now things are on track.

WSLS 10 reveals that the Greenway will remain open when the bridge is closed and that Brandon and Franklin Roads will see an increase in traffic. Roanoke City is planning a launch party in mid-March.
