Roanoke County has named Uma Marques as the new Information Technology Director. The announcement was made by Deputy County Administrator Rebecca Owens. Marques, with over 30 years of technology experience across various sectors, will start her new role on February 21, 2024. She previously served as Director at the Virginia Smart Community Testbed in Stafford County, VA.
Marques is looking forward to joining the Roanoke County team and helping to provide quality services to its citizens. She cited the county’s vision, progress, and leadership support as reasons for her move.
Marques has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Anna University, India, a master’s degree in Computer Engineering from Clemson University, and a master’s degree in Technology Management from George Mason University.
She is replacing Bill Hunter, who recently retired after over 20 years of service to Roanoke County. Marques’s appointment is considered an important move in managing the evolving IT landscape and its new technologies.
