News update regarding early morning shooting
WFXR is revealing an update from the RCPD about a shooting that took place early Saturday morning on Patton Avenue NW. The street has been blocked off between the 400 and 500 blocks but police say there is no known threat to the public. A report of a gunshot victim in the 400 block of Patton led to Police officers being dispatched at 4:55 a.m.
WDBJ 7 says police responded to shots being fired around 5:00 am. Responding officers found a man at the scene who was suffering from a critical injury. They immediately gave the victim emergency aid until Roanoke Fire-EMS arrived but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the suspect is traveling in a maroon 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude with license plate TSB7187. Officers are currently searching for the vehicle and its occupants.
No details about a motive are known at this time. If you see this vehicle do not attempt to stop it. RCPD requests that calls be made to (540)344-8500. This is an ongoing investigation so be on the lookout for updates.
