Three Bennett’s Wallabies introduced at Mill Mountain Zoo

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Mill Mountain Zoo is happy to welcome three Bennett’s Wallabies into their new habitat at the zoo. The new Bennett’s Wallabies are bringing a touch from Down Under to the Star City. They are native to the Easter Coast of Australia, but large populations can be found in Tasmania where they are considered an invasive species. Bennett’s Wallabies are in the same family as kangaroos and wallaroos, called Macropods which means ‘long foot.’ Just like kangaroos, hopping is Bennett’s Wallabies most efficient means of travel where they can reach speeds up to 9 mph.
