CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Iowa women’s basketball team secured a 71-52 victory over Virginia Tech in the Ally Tipoff on Sunday night at the Spectrum Center. The win improves Iowa’s record to 2-0 on the season.
Senior Lucy Olsen paced the Hawkeyes with an impressive 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Fellow senior Addison O’Grady shot a flawless 9-for-9 to notch a career-high 18 points. Junior Hannah Stuelke finished with 16 points and seven rebounds to round out Iowa’s dominant performance.
Stuelke led the way for the Hawkeyes in the first quarter with 10 points. The Hawkeyes went on a 10-0 run holding the Hokies to just three points in the final 4:28 of the quarter, finishing the period with a commanding 26-16 lead.
The Hokies found their rhythm in the second quarter outscoring Iowa 14-8. Virginia Tech’s Camille Baker tallied eight points in the quarter, helping cut Iowa’s lead to just four by halftime. The Hawkeyes maintained a slim 41-37 advantage heading into the locker room.
