ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) – A family in Roanoke will spend the holiday in its new Habitat for Humanity home dedicated.
The Southeast Roanoke home was dedicated on Thursday, December 19 as part of a special Women Build project.
Ninety-seven of the 100 volunteers who worked on the home in May of 2024 were women.

The home was then turned over to the new homeowners in time for Christmas.
Kristen Sheets, Construction Operations Manager said, “Women are underrepresented in the construction industry in general, and so just having an event where most of the people you see are women are just like you. It allows people to see that there is an opportunity for women and that they may not have otherwise or they may have thought that’s not for me, construction is absolutely for them. It’s absolutely for women.”
The Habitat’s Construction Assistance Team joined the project to help finish the work and also train those working towards a career in building.
