Operation Summer Shield aims to keep summer crime down

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) -As temperatures rise, so does crime.

Roanoke Police report an increase in violent crime during the summer, which is why they are launching “Operation Summer Shield.”

“Saturday night is a big night for crowds and the surge of people downtown,” Lieutenant Christopher Ramey with RPD said. “So we want to be an extra presence down there. So, as part of that initiative, people will see extra bike patrol downtown, especially on Saturday nights. ”…
