ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Nearly 40 years after historic flooding left downtown Roanoke underwater, the flood of 1985 is still etched into the city’s memory.
In the decades since, less significant flash flooding has continued to plague downtown streets, but a major stormwater project seeks to change that.
“As many folks know, downtown floods when there’s a really strong burst of rainfall in the area,” said Roanoke Public Works stormwater engineer Marcus Aguilar. “The objective of this project is to allow water to flow more freely through the area.”…
