ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roughly 15 percent of all people and around 20 percent of children across Southwest Virginia are often unsure when and from where their next meal will come.
To combat those numbers, WFXR partnered with Feeding Southwest Virginia and Goodwill Industries of the Valleys for the ‘Hunger to Hope,’ summer food drive on Friday across the Roanoke Valley.
While final collection totals have not been released, preliminary numbers estimate more than 1,300 pounds of food were collected in just one day, enough to provide more than 1,000 meals to the community.
“It’s been a fantastic day,” said Feeding Southwest Virginia Chief Development Officer Lisa Claytor. “We’ve had lots of folks drop off charitable food items, and we’re so thankful.”…
