Grown Here at Home: BOCO Camp LEO visits Cave Hill Dairy Farm

TROUTVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) – The buses rolled into Cave Hill Dairy Farm in Botetourt County and the kids from BOCO Camp LEO were in for a fun day learning how the operation works. Jeff Henderson and his daughter Courtney run the farm that’s been in the family since 1749.

“98 to 99 percent of all dairy operations are family-run, and we’re just one of them. We’re not the biggest, but we’re here, and we’ve always been here, and to be able to show them that and show them something they’ve probably never seen, or don’t see every day, has just been an overwhelming joy of mine,” Courtney explained.

125 cows are milked twice a day every day. The kids learned about the cows’ diet, their personalities, and even had a nice lunch…
