Western Virginia Water Authority votes to increase rates

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Western Virginia Water Authority board voted to increase water and sewer rates Wednesday.

According to the Authority, the average customer uses roughly 4,000 gallons of water per month. They would see an added $4.30 on their bill, or an extra 6.2%.

Sarah Baumgardner is Director of Public Relations for WVWA. She says the rate increase reflects inflation’s impact on their cost of operating.

“The cost of energy, it takes a lot of energy to run a water utility,” she explained. “The cost of chemicals used for treatment, the cost of labor, the cost of supplies, buying pipes, buying fittings. All of that has really gone up.”…
