Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center receives beaver kit

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center received a two-week-old beaver kit last weekend.

He swam right up to a pair of canoers on the Sandy River Reservoir in Price Edward County in apparent distress after it’s believed his den was washed away by recent flooding.

“At that point, they decided to end their trip abruptly and bring him back to us, from approximately two-and-a-half-hours away, just one way,” said Chester Leonard, executive director of the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center. “So, it just goes to show that people will really go out of their way for these amazing animals.”

Beavers are pretty rare for the center, but this one will be the second in their care, which will be beneficial given how social the animals are…
