ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The first heat wave of the summer has made things uncomfortable outdoors throughout the commonwealth. In response, several places are serving as cooling centers throughout the week, including Belmont Presbyterian Church in Southeast Roanoke.
The cooling center is open all week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and hours of operation could change depending on demand. It’s done so for the past few summers, but this year with the sudden spike in temperature, the cooling center opened earlier than expected.
Pastor Todd Atkins encourages everyone to come in and cool down…
