Southwest Virginia: Isolated Severe Thunderstorms May Bring Wind Damage From 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Roanoke, Virginia – Damaging winds could sweep through parts of southwest Virginia tonight as isolated severe thunderstorms develop between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m., mainly west of Highway 220.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a narrow corridor including Roanoke, Wytheville, Bluefield, and Boone lies under a marginal risk for isolated severe storms. While hail is possible, strong wind gusts are the primary concern. The alert includes a portion of the Blue Ridge region and areas bordering Tennessee and West Virginia.

Residents along I-81 and US-220 should stay weather-aware as fast-moving storms may down trees or power lines. Areas such as Mount Airy and the New River Valley could also experience quick bursts of heavy rain and gusty winds late tonight. Emergency managers urge people to secure loose outdoor items, keep phones charged, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts…
